How to make the most of your summer

Summertime is all about having fun, splashing in the water, laughing with friends, going on adventures and soaking up the sun.

At least that’s what I’m led to believe every time I look at my social media feed, turn on a morning show or read a magazine.

Honestly, my life doesn’t always look like that.

I don’t have time to frolic in the sun all day. Not to mention, it’s hot as hell outside. Even my morning meditations have somehow found their way back into an air conditioned house. When I’m hot, I’m irritable…

When the dog days of summer arrive, summer can become tiring, even exhausting. Between summer camps, family vacations, projects around the house, yard-work and back-to-school planning, in addition to still working full-time, life can get pretty harried.

And then summer is gone… and you’re wishing you would have had more fun.

To make the most of the rest of your summer, to truly soak up every last extra ray of light, you don’t have to quit your day job and move to a summer lake house (although if you can swing that, go for it!). You just need to be intentional.

What are your favorite memories of summer? Either as a child or from more recent years? Is it taking a trip to the beach, catching fireflies at night, buying fresh veggies and fruit from local farmers, golfing, visiting parks, having impromptu barbecues with friends?

If you’ve not had a chance to truly enjoy the things you love most about summer, write them down and then come up with a plan to do at least three of those things.

Even if you can’t take a beach trip this year, you can re-create what you love most about it — such as taking a day off to be alone and read a lighthearted book with a fruity drink in your hand.

You have 7 weeks until Labor Day. If you don’t make time now to plan for what’s most important to you, it won’t happen.

Forget the perfect Instagram photo of you jumping off a dock into a lake looking gorgeous and happy. Just make some time to do what you love.

Summer days may be long and hot but they only come once a year.

Stay cool,

P.S. Watch for a big announcement next week including details for my Summer of Joy Giveaway!

So so true!! We decided to take a break from the heat and go to the lake last weekend. Big Fun! We took the pups along too – funny thing though – they both wanted to ride on my paddle board and not the hubby’s!! So off I go with both 50 pound dogs aboard – it was a girls only board day. I was covered in dog kisses and could not stand up at all, but we all had a good time paddling around in the water! I jumped off to swim and they just laid there lapping up the lake. It was awesome just to take a break from household weekend chores and splash around a bit, reminded me of my childhood on the lake. Good stuff!

Rene, that sounds like so much fun! And I love that the pooches had to be with you on the paddle board. I can see it now. I’ve not been to the lake this year but it is now on my list. Thanks for the reminder!

It’s difficult to find experienced people on this topic, however, you seem like you know what you’re talking about!

An outstanding share! I have just forwarded this onto a colleague who had been conducting a little research on this.
And he in fact ordered me lunch due to the fact
that I found it for him… lol. So let me reword this….
Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanx for spending the time to
talk about this matter here on your site.

You can adopt their styles to suit yours; this is one of the best ways to
determine the right fashion for you. You should
always seek advice from someone who has purchase
